Description:
Although the vehicle appeared in the first Star Wars film, and Kenner released a die-cast rendition of it during the late '70s, the Y-Wing fighter was not issued as an action figure toy until 1983, as a part of the Return of the Jedi line. The vehicle was fairly large and wonderfully detailed. It had a great electronic feature, which caused both a laser-like whine and a rotating motion in the twin-barrel cannon that sat atop the cockpit. It also came with a two-piece bomb, which could be released at the touch of a button, as well as a socket into which the R2-D2 figure could be inserted.
Always a popular vehicle, the Y-Wing has become increasingly difficult to find in unused condition over the years. Loose, it's quite tough to find complete, as it came with many removable parts, including four long "struts" on each of its tail extensions. Hasbro recycled the tooling for Kenner's vintage Y-Wing for their 2000 version of the toy. The later vehicle is easily distinguishable from its forerunner due to its vastly different deco scheme.
