Description:
Available only at Sears during the Christmas seasons of 1983 and 1984, the Jabba's Dungeon Action Playset was a re-worked version of Kenner's Droid Factory of 1979. However, the plastic base of the Jabba's Dungeon set differed from its earlier counterpart in both color and minor detailing. Its crane element also included two hooks whereas the Droid Factory's boasted only one.

Two different versions of the toy were issued, in '83 and '84, respectively. The first featured a dark gray base and included the Return of the Jedi figures 8d8, Klaatu in Skiff Guard Disguise and Nikto. The second issue featured a tan base and included the then new Power of the Force figures Amanaman, Barada and Ev-9d9. The figures came bagged inside of the toy boxes. It should also be noted that the boxes made for the two versions differed from each other considerably.

Neither version is particularly difficult to find, although the later issue commands a decent price due to the relative scacity of the figures it came packaged with. Interestingly, many of these sets have turned up bearing the price tags of Kay-Bee toy stores, indicating that Sears sold their remaining stock of the item to the toy retailer once they'd decided to no longer carry it.

First Issued: 1983 (ROTJ packaging, w/ ROTJ figures)
Re-issues: 1984 (ROTJ packaging, new box & POTF figures)
