Description:
Like their earlier Cantina Adventure Set and later Rebel Command Center, Sears' Cloud City playset was a primarily cardboard thing, produced as a vehicle to sell figures. The cardboard backdrop folded in a novel way to give it a neat three-dimensional effect, and it was printed with some great graphics, including some based on the carbonite freezing chamber and the device on which Han gets tortured. It's really an attractive piece, despite its cheapness. It's unfortunate, however, that Kenner never made more playsets based on the Bespin environment. They seemed to reserve their Bespin toys for their more accurately-scaled Micro Collection line.

Four figures came packaged with the item, in a white box labeled "Cloud City Figures." (The box can be seen here.) They were Han Solo in Bespin outfit, Lobot, Dengar and Ugnaught. Cloud City also came with some white plastic pegs, which could be inserted into the cardboard in order to give the figures something to stand on. In Canada, the same cardboard playset was sold with different figures, including the ever-popular Boba Fett. In the '90s, Hasbro developed a plastic Bespin freeze chamber playset, but had trouble releasing it.
