| This press sheet from 20th Century-Fox and Columbia Pictures serves as an at-a-glance look at The Empire Strikes Back for exhibitors in Australia, where the film was originally released in August 1980. In addition to advertising graphics and information about promotional materials available for order (can't you just hear "One Sheeters" in an Aussie accent?), the sheet features a synopsis of the film full of fun (and sometimes incorrect) descriptions that appear to be unique. It announces that Empire is in fact Episode V of "a mighty saga of nine," and describes Yoda as "the wise elf-wizard of the galaxy." Though it holds off on revealing the identity of Luke's father, it gives away that Solo is "popped into a carbon freezing chamber" at the end of the film. Who is Anthony Prowse? Is this perhaps the first official reference to "Snowtroopers"? Chewbacca is referred to as Han Solo's "hairy mate," and the announcement opens with a great tagline: "Better buckle your belts tightly, space travellers...celestial perils are coming your way..." |
