| Jessica Meade Head Silicone Mold | |
| When creating an action figure, a sculptor will create an original design out of wax or a similar material. This initial sculpt is fragile and needs to subsequently be converted into hardcopies, which can be further tooled and used in the toymaking process. In order to turn the original sculpt into prototype hardcopy figures, a silicone mold is made from each original sculpt part. Resin is then subsequently poured into the newly created mold and allowed to harden, creating nearly identical copies of the original sculpture in fine detail. Silicone molds remain one of the scarcest prototype stages to have survived. This is the silicone mold for the head of the unproduced Jessica Meade figure planned for the second wave of the Droids animated show. Residual colored urethane specks can be appreciated within the mold as leftovers from the process. The carved-out channels are used for pouring the urethane and releasing air. |
