No one can forget the scene at the opening of Star Wars where the Star Destroyer flies overhead. This has always been one of my favorite ships in the Star Wars saga and seems to be based on sea-going vessels. Star Destroyers are fundamental to the Imperial Fleet, and Star Destroyer models were made in different scales throughout the Star Wars movies.
Here you can see the closeup of a Star Destroyer bridge. I'd guess that this model was used for the scene in Empire Strikes Back where Han attaches the Falcon to the garbage chute.
From the side view, you can see that stretch out quite a distance. In the foreground, you can see the Super Star Destroyer Executor, which is not built to the same scale as the Star Destroyer in the background.
A closeup view of Executor...a Super Star Destroyer. This is the command ship that Admiral Ozzel...er umm, Admiral Piett, leads in the battles against the Rebels. It is also the place of Vader's residence while he's traveling with the fleet.
