These abbreviations are short for, respectively, unpunched and punched. They are used in reference to action figure blister cards, all of which bear a perforated area in their upper regions, which, when punched out, reveals a hole intended to allow the card to be hung from a store rack.

Although many collectors pay little mind to the punch status of their carded figures, many consider a punched piece to be substantially flawed. Consequently, unpunched figures tend to command a premium on the collector market.
