Mail-aways are items offered by companies as premiums. They are sent through the mail to consumers who purchase a certain amount of retail items, save their proofs-of-purchase, and redeem them with the manufacturer. The most notable Star Wars mail-aways are those connected with Kenner's popular line of toys and action figures, and most collectors can remember saving Kenner proofs-of-purchase in preparation for the next big mail-away offer. However, many other mail-away premium programs were run by Star Wars licensees, including several connected to General Mills and Kellogg's cereals. Collectors usually like to find mail-away items unused, along with their original shipping boxes.
