Custom
The term custom refers to anything (figures, cardbacks, etc.) that is made by fans, typically called customizers. Various processes are used to create figures, but the most common techniques involve combining different body parts from existing figures, repainting figures, or the most challenging-- using a sculpting material to either enhance figures or create them from scratch. With the use of photo editing software, packaging can be created on the computer and then printed using high quality printers. Almost always, custom figures are made for characters that were never released in the vintage line or have yet to be released in the modern line. It is also interesting to see customs that, while being made recently, retain the style and feel of an authentic vintage figure.

The term custom is sometimes interchangeable with reproduction. However, custom has less of a negative connotation to it.
