Return of the Jedi 45-back FX7
Pictured here is the FX7 figure reissue on Return of the Jedi 45-back card as released in France in 1983 by French licensee MECCANO. This character had been introduced in France in 1981 during the Empire Strikes Back era, which were sold packaged in the famous typical French square cards. The blister card format was restored to its original rectangular shape to comply with the precise specifications and standards established by Kenner and Palitoy with the ongoing standardization initiated at European level. However, Meccano retained the French names of the characters on the 45-backs, as used on the previous square cards.

Since the Return of the Jedi line was introduced several months prior to the film’s release, it consisted with the re-marketing of a selection of already available action figures under the new film’s branding. ROTJ 45-back cards are very scarce to find as they were available only for a few months before the release of true ROTJ products and action figures on 65-back cards, and just before Trilogo took over European lines.

FX7 on Meccano ROTJ card is among the rarest of the ROTJ series, as a few other ESB-released figures. That’s because it was not reissued on ROTJ 65-back which focused on the new figures from the movie, and only a lesser selection of previously available toys.

Also featured here is a group picture of all FX7 on French packaging: ESB 18-back, ROTJ 45-back, and French Trilogo. See individual entries for more details on each variant.
