Admiral Ackbar Costume & Mask #736, ESB Box, Revenge Logo Costume
One of the interesting mysteries about the Ben Cooper costume line is the existence of the four ROTJ character costumes in ESB boxes. Gamorrean Guard, Klaatu, Wicket, and Admiral Ackbar were released in ROTJ boxes with both Revenge of the Jedi and Return of the Jedi logos on the costume. That in itself is not surprising because there were many products affected by the name change of the movie that had to be reissued or reworked prior to release. But why would these be released in ESB boxes? Some have conjectured that they were early releases (similar to the Kenner Admiral Ackbar action figure being available via mail-in prior to the movie's title change and the paperwork using the Revenge title). But that would mean the costumes were out in October of 1982. Very unlikely especially when you recall there was an embargo on Ewok images until after the movie released. Actually, the costumes would not need to be ready until fall, 1983 and that makes them one of the last items released for the movie. So why did they still have Revenge logos on the costumes and why put them in ESB boxes (they were also released in ROTJ boxes)?
