Photographs of Prototypes of Body Rigs | |
You see here photographs, taken internally at Kenner, which show prototypes of the three Body Rigs.
While it's interesting to see these toys bearing rough, apparently protomolded, details, the photos are mostly interesting for the writing that appears on their fronts and backs. The above image reveals that the Imperial Sniper was originally called the Spit Gunner.
Though the Security Scout shows the vehicle being piloted by Lando Skiff, the notation on the photo references Luke Poncho. On each of these photos, the written character name is a reference to the Power of the Force action figure that was depicted piloting the vehicle on the artwork used on its respective blister card. Actually, if you compare the photos to the art featured on the Body Rig cards, you'll note that the positioning of each vehicle corresponds pretty closely to the vehicles as they are shown in the art. I wouldn't be surprised if the card art was based, at least in part, on these photographs.
Sentinel appears to be the early title of the Security Scout.
I love the idea of 8D8 taking a break from torturing and maiming droids to joyride on the Sand Skimmer.
The Sand Skimmer photo is the only one among this trio to bear the title that was eventually carried forward into production. |
