Photoart, Box Flat and Photosample for Micro Collecting X-Wing
Here you see the photoart for the box of the Micro Collection X-Wing Fighter. You can read more about it here.

As the box featured two images of the toy, there are two pieces of photoart corresponding to it. This one shows the art for the small inset on the top right of the box's front.

As most collectors are aware, the box was issued in a few different styles. Whereas the first featured an inset showing just part of the hunched-over x-wing pilot figure, the second showed the pilot beside his wrecked ship, which he apparently crashed after getting space-sick and barfing all over his control-panel. Above you see a box flat owned by collector Josh Blake beside the production box. Note the glue residue on the upper prototype. At some point the box flat was modified to include a glued-on inset similar to the large one you see on the lower production version.

Here's a full shot of the flat. Like a lot of flats, it includes handwritten notations indicating needed changes.

The project numbers on the photoart and the flat match, as they should.

Josh is fortunate enough to also own the x-wing toy used in the photoart. Collectors often refer to these as photosamples.

It's not uncommon for photosamples to differ slightly from their production counterparts. In the above photo you can see that the photosample, on the top, lacks details present on the regular toy. Note in particular the engine wells. Molded differences like that are great to find on an injection-molded prototype. They make a good piece into a great one.

But some of the non-molded details on this item are also worthy of note. These images show that the photosample has decals that are quite different than those released to stores.
