Prototype Board for Yoda the Jedi Master Board Game | |
This board, from the Yoda the Jedi Master board game, was created by the folks at Kenner for photography and promotional purposes at a time when the final design of the board hadn't been settled on. If you look closely at the insets at the corners, you'll see that they're rough sketches. Also, the board isn't designed to be folded; it appears to consist of a color print-out that's been pasted to a piece of illustration board. The textured black border is nothing more than carefully applied tape.
Here's a close-up of one of the insets.
You can get a sense of just how different the prototype is by comparing it with this production example. I think the art featured on it is the same as that shown on the prototype. It just shows it at a later stage of development, after a lot of airbrushing work had been done. It's always interesting to come across a prototype that preserves an early version of a piece of production art. As you've probably noticed, the inset sketches have been replaced by actual movie images. There are a bunch of other differences, but I'll let you discover those for yourself |
