Wax Sculpts for Jabba Playset Elements
Most collectors probably realize that the majority of vintage Star Wars figures were sculpted in wax or acetate. But few consider that many other types of toy were created via the same process. Here you see the original sculpts for two familiar elements from the Jabba the Hutt Action Playset, one of the most familiar toys from Kenner's Return of the Jedi line.

First up is the menacing gargoyle head that decorated Jabba's throne. Four such gargoyles were present on the production toy, but since they're all identical in form only one sculpt had to be created.

Second is the sculpt for Jabba's frog bowl/hookah thing. As you can see, the sculpt was created by applying wax detailing to a base made from Dynacast. Beside that is a hardcopy made from the sculpt. It, too, is made from Dynacast, though it's been painted with gray primer.
