A number of stores sold unfinished "whiteware" ceramics in the late 70s and 80s that people could paint or glaze on their own. Most commonly seen are the Darth Vader and R2-D2 kits that could be used as lamps or banks. This is the first example I have seen of this particular style, and I am not sure if it is something produced one time by a crafty individual, or a kit item sold in a craft store. Regardless, there's a bit of whimsy to this that I find appealing. There are no dates on it, but based on the other items in the collection where I got it, I assume this is an original vintage era piece from the late '70s or early '80s. |
