Droids A-Wing Pilot Original Artwork
The A-Wing pilot along with Boba Fett holds a unique position among the Droids series figures given it was a re-packaged version of the action figure from Kenner’s trilogy line. The style of the artwork pictured here also suggests that it was done by the same artist who did Boba Fett because, by and large, the other first series of Droids figures’ art incorporated less realism. Like all Droids series artwork it’s an original sketch drawn in pencil, colored with watercolor brush work, with black line detail added on an overlay.

Also shown is a comparison photo of the A-Wing Pilot next to the original Droids art for Jann Tosh. A keen eye will also note that it lacks the mechanical detail present on the other first series Droids artwork, save for Fett. The absence of the character’s name and the location of sizing details (they indicate that it would appear at 57% of the original size on the blister card) also differ. This would seem to indicate that Boba Fett and The A-Wing Pilot were done at a different time to the other Droids series figures, presumably earlier since the design work for the figures had already been done.

In the last photo you can see the size comparison between the artwork and the Cromalin. Included in this photo as well is an alternate Droids logo sticker and you can see that the drawing of C-3PO and R2-D2 is different than on the final packaging.
