Unlicensed Plush R2-D2
One of the fun things about collecting is discovering new things--even really ugly new things. Until very recently I had never seen anything looking even remotely like the plush R2-D2 you see pictured above. And now it's happily displayed in my collection, where it will doubtless frighten my girlfriends for at least the next several years.

The original owner reported having won it at a New Jersey carnival way back in '77. I've never seen or heard of another. It's possible this is the only one ever made.

Here you see the top of the "head". It's been cleverly detailed with a few swatches of faux blue leather. As I'm sure you've noticed, the front of the item is similarly detailed, and includes some prismatic foil tape for added sci-fi effect. I like the silly detailing, actually. It has a fun, minimalist appeal.

Finally, we have a shot of the R2 piece beside a C-3PO item which is similarly aesthetically-challenged.
