Hoth Stormtrooper (Carded-Black)

Now this is a worthy addition to our bootleg section.

The figure is known to come in 3 colors; red, black, and yellow, but this is the first carded example ever to surface. You can bet that Joseph is on the hunt for the other two now.

For many, many years all that was known about this figure was that what looked like a cardback and loose figure was sold in Toy Shop back in 1996. However, in the summer of 2006 a partial cardback and loose black figure finally turned up thanks to the dillegence of my good friend Jakub.

This was the closest anybody had come to seeing one in 10 years. Ironically, within about 9 months of the cardback turning up a full carded figure turned up on a popular auction site. Apparently, frostyned bought this years back while in Warsaw, Poland. The sad part is that he says there were a ton of them but he only bought the one. This particular figure caused quite the stir on the forums of a major Star Wars board and the press that followed caused this figure to end with a record setting price. In fact, just for posterity here is a pic frostyned posted on his auction page just after the winning bid.

Bootlegs may not be everybody's cup of tea but it doesn't get much more rare than this. It's things like this that truly make the hobby fun.
