Plaque from John Williams to Meco
In 1977, two Star Wars pieces hit the top 10 on the pop charts. John William's Star Wars soundtrack sold 1.1 million copies with a single selling 300,000 and reaching the #10 position on the Billboard charts. Meco's disco version of the Star Wars soundtrack sold 1.4 million copies, hit #1 on the Billboard charts, and sold over 2 million copies.

In 1978, both the John Williams and Meco versions of Star Wars were competing for the same Grammy, but the Grammy was awarded to Meco. Through the course of his career Meco was a four-time Grammy nominee. This plaque was a gift from Jimmy Ienner (President of Millennium Records) and John Williams to Meco to recognize the significance of Meco's contribution to the label and the popularity of Star Wars music. John Williams signed the cover of Meco's Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk album that was used in this plaque, a significant honor between two artists who made the Star Wars theme recognizable to everyone around the world. Meco's Star Wars single is the only pop instrumental to achieve platinum status in the history of the RIAA.
