Spaceballs, The Action Figures | |
Although technically not Star Wars collectibles, Star Wars did inspire this set of screen-used action figures from the Mel Brooks movie, Spaceballs, the hilarious 1987 spoof of Star Wars. The merchandising of Star Wars action figures became so legendary in the decade that followed the release of A New Hope that Brooks didn't miss a beat parodying the merchandising mania when Dark Helmet (bearing no resemblance to Darth Vader whatsoever) is caught playing with his set of Dark Helmet, Dot Matrix (C-3PO), Lone Star (Han Solo), and Barf (Chewbacca) action figures. Screen-used and action figure are words that are seldom seen together in the world of collectibles, but for Star Wars, these Spaceballs movie props were a nod to the unprecendented success of the vintage Kenner Star Wars line.
