I am convinced the original popularity of this toy linked into the 1970s Apollo space mission era and those astronaut endurance tests. According the Kenner designer who came up with the idea, top execs were cool on the idea when it was first pitched, but it was quietly shepherded into production and went on to be a huge hit in the mid-1970s. Lucas was initially reluctant to have the film name simply slapped onto existing products, though, so a Star Wars version was not issued until this ewok-themed model in 1983. |
