1977 McDonald's Wilshire Star Wars Game Piece | |
For U.S. fans, a Star Wars McDonald's game piece represents something of an anomally. Most would associate Star Wars fast food promotions with McDonald's competitors Burger Chef and Burger King.
However, in the fall of 1977, a lone McDonald's restaurant in the Wilshire district of Los Angeles got clearance by Star Wars Corporation's Charles Lippincott to run a Star Wars promotion called "Catch A Star". Prizes revealed by the scratch-off game piece included Star Wars iron-ons, posters, buttons, or tickets to see Star Wars at Westwood's AVCO Cinema. For the promotion's debut, Darth Vader appeared in person to kick off the 2-week extravaganza. Game piece measures 2.5 x 3.25 inches. |
