Mexican collectors Luis and Josefina Gálvez began in late 2003 to write a
fantastic feature for the Mexican Star Wars magazine, Universo Star Wars. They
are currently writing a series of Lili Ledy "technical cards" that contain
information about the different vintage Star Wars figures produced by Lili Ledy.
Included in each detachable full page card are high quality pictures,
comparisons, and information regarding variations. This is certainly a great
contribution to collectors, and the Archive is proud to present this feature for
those who are not be subscribed to Universo Star Wars. Click on the pictures
below to get a high quality scan of each side. The text is also translated
below.
Figure
This little action figure with dark clothes and glowing eyes was manufactured by
Lili Ledy in 1983 and packed in the cards with El Regreso del Jedi logo.
Its drawing appeared for the first time in the 50 back cards.
Card
The picture in the Jawa card is the same that Kenner used for its cards;
nevertheless, it has a close up. The intensity of the colors is different; the
hood and the background are lighter in Lili Ledy, the clothes are dark and
details are not visible.
Cloth Variations
This is one of the most important differences with the Kenner version. The Lili
Ledy hood is a separate piece, it is not part of the cloak. All Kenner versions
have the cloak and the hood as one piece of cloth. The Lili Ledy fabric has a
very fine weft similar than the Kenner version with small hood and smooth
fabric.
Face and Eyes Variations
The Lili Ledy figure eyes are almond-shaped with an intense and glossy
yellow painting. Kenner’s eyes are round in two versions, small and large. The
black painting on the face is also glossy, Kenner’s is opaque.
Bandolier Straps Variations
The Lili Ledy bandolier straps are painted with a darker and glossy brown
painting. Kenner’s are opaque.
Leg Variations
All the Jawa figures have the G.M.F.G.I. 1977 legend (General Mills Fun Group
Inc. and the year the figure was manufactured for the first time). A second line
shows the manufacture country. This time it was not erased for the Lili Ledy
figure even though it was manufactured by Lili Ledy in 1983; the company used
the original Kenner molds from 1977. The Lili Ledy figure has above legends at
the middle section of the leg like one of the Kenner versions. The American
company had two more versions, one with the legend at the bottom section and the
last one without the country of manufacture.
Weapons and Accessories
Lili Ledy packed the Jawa figure with the Nien Numb pistol in black plastic. The
actual Jawa gun was never manufactured by Lili Ledy.
