R2-D2 Coke COBOT Appearance Poster | |
The Coca-Cola Cobot, which many people might recognize as the somewhat scarce remote-control R2-D2-like toy with a Coke can body, was actually built full-scale to be sent around supermarket venues during the early 1980s.
This poster, which advertises just such an event, measures 18x24 inches and has blank spaces for date and time. This was likely printed in 1980 or shortly thereafter. There were several premiums associated with these appearances, such as pinbacks, cups, and posters, which were typically handed out for free. The full-size Cobot would be controlled by an on-site engineer who would be able to listen in by a microphone hidden on the robot's body. The Cobot would typically praise consumers for purchasing a Coke product and mildly scold those who didn't. Very few of these full-size examples remain in collections today. |
