Prototype Display for Electronic Laser Battle Game

The store display for the Star Wars Electronic Laser Battle Game is among the rarest of all such displays issued by Kenner. It was unique in that it incorporated a working sample of the product, so that customers could test it out prior to purchasing it. What you see here is an early version of that display. As you should be able to see by looking at the photos shown here, it differs in several notable ways from the display that was eventually issued to stores. For one thing, the yellow text which spells out the title of the product was later changed to a blue-and-yellow font of a distinctly three-dimensional design. The silhouette of the piece was also modified, as were several photographic elements. Namely, the photo of the man and boy appears at a lower point on the released display, and a photo of an X-Wing fighter was inserted into the upper regions. There are several other less noticeable differences, as well.
