Danish Toy Ads | |
Seen on this page are four Danish print advertisements for Star Wars toys. Judging from the toys depicted in it, including the Rebel Transport and Snowspeeder, this first one probably dates from 1981 or so. I love that bright glowing "sun" just to the right over the Transport.
This next one probably dates from around the same time. As you can see, it focuses primarily on the Millennium Falcon, with the Battle Damaged X-Wing and Snowspeeder also making appearances.
Next up is an add bearing the Return of the Jedi logo, a detail that tells us this ad must date from around 1983. However, all of the toys featured in it were first issued during the ESB years. The emphasis on the Scout Walker probably indicates that it was a new item in Denmark at that time.
Finally we have this ad, which also bears the ROTJ logo, but which also features no true ROTJ toys. Instead it focuses on the AT-AT, Slave 1, the Scout Walker and Darth Vader's TIE Fighter. Paper ads like these were typically the first things thrown away by the buying public of the '80s. Yet they really provide one with a peek into the past. I just love those cheesy, pre-digital graphics and innovative diorama settings. |
