Concept Sketch for 12-Back Blister Card
Kenner had an outside design firm aid them in the creation of their Star Wars blister cards. The images you see on this page show a sketch dating from the earlier stages of this design process. As you can see, it features the the classic Star Wars logo pasted onto a colorful drawing of a blister card. An X-Wing is drawn directly under the logo. It is clear from this and other similar sketches and photos that Kenner really wanted to focus attention on this vehicle.

Here's a closer view. You can see the extensive notes that were written on this sketch. Everything is hand drawn except the Star Wars logo which is actually cut out and pasted on. The Luke on the right is representative of an actual action figure. The picture to the left of the action figure (in this case of Vader and Luke) was going to be a photo of the action figure's character "in combat" with another Star Wars character. However, you can also imagine that Han Solo's photo would have come with Chewbacca, and so on. On the side there is a very quick sketch of the cardback with a square bubble. Also, there is a note the mentions "neon tubing"-- a forerunner to the silver racetrack design that was used on the final 12 back design.

Here is a closeup of the bottom. This small drawing indicates that different color schemes would be used for different characters.

Finally, there is a small photo negative attached at the top of this design artwork. It's not a Star Wars image, but rather a very generic sci-fi-looking spaceship cruiser. It was probably attached to give some ideas as to color or for imagination.
