| It's not hard to see that the most prominent piece in this photo of the second series figures is the early version of Boba Fett. Of course the text mentions the infamous rocket launching mechanism in the backpack. It's unfortunate that this photo doesn't contain the early prototype versions of most of the other figures though. The figures shown here are identical to their released versions, though Snaggletooth and Luke are actually hardcopies not production figures. Notice the weapon called out for Hammerhead is a laser pistol, but it shipped with a laser rifle. Snaggletooth is shown and noted to come with a "Strormtroooper Rifle" (laser rifle) but it shipped with a laser pistol. Even the early Sears version of (blue) Snaggletooth had a laser pistol although it was shown on the box holding a laser rifle.
This Kenner product sheet is part of a 3-ring notebook containing early photography and descriptions of roughly 30 Star Wars toys. Each sheet has the same format with typed information about the product and a pasted-on glossy photo. Most photos are representations of the toys but they often differed from their released counterparts which makes it quite unique to look at. These were generally mock-ups of sorts created because the toys weren't ready in time for photography and early marketing. This book came from an ex-Kenner model maker who was dilligently tracked down by a collector. Many thanks go out to that collector for helping turn up a piece of history like this. |
