Death Squad Commander and Rebel Soldier Concept Drawings | |
These two cardboard concept drawings were probably part of a Toy Fair or other promotional display to allow Kenner to advertise a new product before product samples were available. Toy companies still to this day use artwork to represent toys that are not far enough along in production, so that buyers can have an idea of the product concept. The infamous Yak Face figure was a good example of this.
In this case, one of the cutouts is of the familiar Death Squad Commander figure. The other one appears to be a Rebel Soldier from A New Hope. Was Kenner considering the release of a Rebel Soldier figure as a repaint of the Death Squad Commander? |
