ESB Display Arena Toy Fair Mock-Up | |
This is an early, hand-made model for the Display Arena that was available for a time as an Empire Strikes Back mail-away promotion.
It was used at Toy Fair to present the concept to buyers, at a time before the item had gone into mass-production. The base can be considered a "first shot" of sorts, its plastic surface lacking any production markings, while the inter-changeable backgrounds consist of actual photographs (the "Kodak" logo can be seen on their backsides) pasted onto, interestingly, pieces of the cardboard backdrop to the old 12 figure display stand, that had been cut to size to suit the newer toy. In a collecting field of mass-produced plastic, hand-made items such as this stand as fascinating comments on the creative force that made the whole line "tick." |
