| Sample
carded figures were used to demonstrate how a particular figure would look like
carded. These pieces would be made before cardbacks were available for the
figure and in most cases featured early versions of the figure such as a first
shot or protomolded
figure. In this case, we have a first shot POTF R2-D2 with Pop-Up Lightsaber on
a production ROTJ Rebel Commando card.
By looking at the bottom of the feet we can see that there are no copyright dates or markings. This is the tell-tale sign of a first shot. Soon after in the production process, a more finished-looking sample carded figure would be created. |
