Emperor Protomolded Figure | |
This is a protomolded Emperor figure. It was injected molded in-house at Kenner using white plastic and low yield aluminum molds. Protomolded figures differ in a number of ways from standard first shots, which are generally produced by overseas vendors. Usually, the molding of protomolded figure is fairly sub-par. In these photos, you can see the imperfections that are typical of this kind of prototype. Also notice that the color this piece is painted appears to be a bit grayer than the plastic of which the production figure is composed.
The torsos of protomolded figures are typically shot in one piece. The limbs are then inserted into the torso piece via pin-like extensions of the plastic they're composd of. In this third photo you see the head detached. |
