| Original Artwork for Glasslite TIE Interceptor Box | |
| As many of you probably know, the Brazilian company Glasslite released a small line of Star Wars product during the late '80s, including a version of the TIE Interceptor vehicle. The toy itself was significantly different from the one issued in the States and elsewhere, but the most noticeable thing about it was surely its colorful box, which was printed with unique graphics.
Like many of Kenner's Power of the Force toys, these graphics were drawn from a skillfully-rendered painting. What you see here is that actual painting, the one that served as the basis for all the Glasslite Interceptor boxes produced. It was executed on a flimsy piece of cardboard in what looks to be some type of acrylic paint.
As you can probably tell from looking at the close-up shots, it's a pretty detailed piece of work. Unfortunately, two of the coolest details, the explosion and the Death Star, are obscured on the production box by other graphics. Quite a few paintings have survived from the Kenner line. But it's very rare to see a foreign piece like this appear. It never ceases to surprise me how much has survived from the vintage era. |
