Hoth Turret Defense Packaging Conceptual Layouts | |
Here you see three different design layouts for the box of the Micro Collection Hoth Turret Defense playset. They all seem to be composed of painted and photocopied elements, which have been pasted onto pieces of board. This first one shows a red-dominated scheme, which echoes the coloring of the Micro boxes that eventually went into production. Also notice that it includes the familiar inset of the included figures in the lower left corner-- though here that inset contains just a rough thumbnail, not an actual figure photograph.
This next example also features the figure inset, but now the main color is blue. The style of the logo is also significantly different from that of the first design on this page. You can also clearly see that the figure depicted in the inset is the original Luke Bespin prototype, which was made to test the line.
The last design, however, has no inset, though it also features blue coloration. Eventually, of course, Kenner did away with the Empire Strikes Back logo entirely, and fused it with the Micro Collection logo to create a kind of combination badge to represent the line. A couple of mock-up prototypes of the entire box for this playset can be found here. |
