Bounty Hunters Art by Ralph McQuarrie | |
The Luke Skywalker trench battle painting by Ralph McQuarrie was first created for the original Star Wars fan club poster in 1977. Over the years, licensees have found, and keep finding, multiple applications for McQuarrie's paintings.
One example (left) is the Star Wars: Star Warriors box. It was a role-playing game designed by West End Games. Sometimes images may be inadvertently flopped in production. However, in this case it appears intentionally flopped for design aesthetic. The image on the right is the actual preliminary painting McQuarrie created to establish the design, layout and lighting to be used in the final rendering. The finished painting shown on the box resides in the Lucasfilm archives. (Note: Images shown in the photo are not proportionate.) |
