20th Century Fox "26 for 76" Campaign | |
Although the significance of this poster may not be immediately apparent to the casual collector, Star Wars historians will recognize the "26 for 76" campaign as Fox's first public acknowledgement that it had green-lighted the fledgling production. This poster, along with the accompanying campaign book featuring an early McQuarrie sketch, were printed for a January 1976 Fox sales convention designed to solicit bids from theater owners to help finance the production. Star Wars left with only fifteen percent of expected bids.
The poster is quite large (40x60 inches) and printed on heavy stock. Its silver on black design somewhat foreshadow's the earliest campaign posters Fox would release for Star Wars in late 1976. |
