Vlix Action Figure Card Artwork | |
What you see here is the original artwork used to produce the blister card of one of the most notorious of all Kenner Star Wars figures, the Droids character Vlix, which was only released in Brazil by the Glasslite company. It's comprised of a piece of illustration board, which has been meticulously painted with a pretty complicated scene. There is also a sheet of overlaying clear plastic (shown pulled away in this first photo), which is marked with dark lines meant to delineate certain areas of the painting.
By now you may have noticed how much more extensive this image is than the one that eventually appeared on the production cardback. Specifically, the entire left side of the painting, depicting among other things Tig Fromm and the space vessel's control panel, was eventually covered over by the solid-color figure area on the production card.
I think you can get a sense of the rather rough painting style by looking at this image. Also note the presense of C-3PO on one of the view screens. This core character seems to have been incorporated into virtually every Droids blister card design. |
