Empire Strikes Back FX-7
Meccano’s line of ESB action figures came packaged in a square-shaped card which had been introduced in 1979 with the second series of Star Wars 'Guerre des Etoiles' (in French) product range. With only six figures available in 1980, the Empire Strikes Back line concluded in 1982 with 19 figures (11 ESB action figures were not retailed in France).

Unlike other licensees, Meccano also did not update the packaging of the 'Star Wars' product range with the second film’s title and both series (SW and ESB) continued to be marketed without further updates until the end of the ESB marketing era. This also reflects on the backing card showing only minor updates limited to the 1980 releases.

The series is one of the rarest among all produced worldwide. Very few specimens have survived almost none in sealed condition, in a handful of private collections and they rarely surface.

Also featured here is a group picture of all FX7 on French packaging: ESB 18-back, ROTJ 45-back, and French Trilogo. See individual entries for more details on each variant.
