Return of the Jedi 2-Pack (Luke Skywalker & Admiral Ackbar)
Kenner was left with alot of overstock as the gears of the Star Wars phenomenon began to wear down towards the mid-80's. Figures were sold around the world in special deal multi-packs and for bargain prices in order to cash in on whatever was left over from the Star Wars toy era. Long considered the ugly-ducklings of carded Star Wars figures, these 2-packs, issued at the tail-end of the ROTJ line, represent some of the lowest quality Star Wars merchandise that Kenner ever offered. Often lacking weapons, the figures were randomly packed on generic blister cards which, as you might have noticed, seem to have been created without much of a concern for originality or visual attractiveness. In fact, judging from the clarity of the "steel-bar" borders, the cards almost appear to have been photocopied from a standard ROTJ blister. The bubbles used on these packs are comparable to those used on Tri-Logo carded figures, in that they're flimsy and easily crushed, but they also have a unique, irregular shape, in order to accomodate both standard-size figures and more substantial ones, such as the Gamorrean Guard.

Quality aside, these 2-packs provide an interesting counterpoint to the Star Wars and ESB 3-packs, which represent the opposite side of the coin--multi-packs created with the specific aim of providing the consumer with a high-quality and uniquely packaged item. Its a little tougher finding main and/or Star Wars-issue characters in these packages, which makes the inclusion of an original Luke in this one something of a bonus.
