Return of the Jedi 41-Back (Transition Card) C-3PO | |
Unlike their American counterpart, Kenner Canada had an effective method of updating outdated ESB figures once the new movie hit and Return of the Jedi product started hitting the shelves: stickers bearing the ROTJ logo were simply applied over the old ESB logos. Unlike the ROTJ logo that Kenner commonly used on their carded figures, however, the sticker versions employed a nifty double-bordered version very similar to the older SW and ESB logos. This was probably done in order to allow the smaller ROTJ logo to cover the whole of the larger ESB design.
The figure pictured here, the original version of C3PO, is, by far, the most commonly seen of these stickered figures. Its interesting in that its a very late release for a figure that had been outmoded during the ESB run by the "removable limbs" version. The blue plate on the card behind the figure even advises the buyer to loosen up the figure's limbs by turning them. Other figures that I've seen with these stickers include IG-88, Boba Fett, Han Bespin and Yoda, which seems to be the most common after C3PO. The back of the figure is pretty neat too--its an ESB 41-back, amended with a sticker advertising in both English and French the ROTJ Admiral Ackbar mail-away offer. |
