Death Star
This foreign Death Star playset was made by the Australian Toltoys company. An identical one was made by England's Palitoy Company. The Toltoys set is made from a much sturdier chipboard material whereas the Palitoy set is made of cardboard. The sets are the same, however and they are generically referred to as the cardboard Death Stars. These sets could be found in Canada as well as their native countries. This colorful two-level playset includes a working trash compactor and boasts a small gun turret at the top. There is a plastic chute that leads to the trash compactor, but the compactor itself is nothing more than a pivoting section of cardboard. The guns in the turret are the same as those found on the X-Wing vehicles. There is even an enclosed walkway that joins two sections of the upper level. Except for the gun turret, chute, and connecting mounts the entire set is made of cardboard. The concept was neat but paper-based playsets never did a great job of outlasting rough play.
