Boba Fett Large Size Action Figure
Hands down, without question, Kenner's large size rendition of Boba Fett is amongst the greatest action figure toys ever created. It simply had everything going for it-- great character, great likeness, great articulation and a weird sticker on its chest! Personally, I've always considered the 33/4" version of Boba Fett to be a pretty lame figure; it just didn't do justice to the flat-out coolness of the character. But Kenner made up for it with this 13 inch effort. It had nine points of articulation, including ball joints at the shoulders and elbows, so that the arms had a full range of posability (compare this to the "stiff" articulation of the 12" Stormtrooper figure). This meant that the figure could be made to hold its rifle in a natural way. It also had a detachable backpack with a removable rocket, a movable range finder, and a "site" built into its head, which allowed kids to "see" what Boba was "seeing" (this was a feature Kenner recycled from their Six Million Dollar man figure). And if that wasn't enough, the toy came with two "wookie scalps." They were really just braided threads, but it didn't matter because the package called them "wookie scalps." Coooooool.

The figure also came with a unique rifle, a cape, and a pretty neat looking belt. For some reason, the above catalog description says it had removable armor. It didn't.

As one might expect, this piece is always in demand by collectors. In boxed, unused condition, it can fetch a staggeringly high price. Loose, with all its accessories, it's among the more expensive of the unpackaged large figures. Collectors looking for a loose example of this item should be aware that 1) parts are frequently missing, and 2) many replica parts to this figure are in circulation. Among the most frequently missing parts are the white tip to the rocket and the two white "thrusters" attached to the bottom of the backpack. Also, there are three elements on the chest that are frequently damaged or missing: a round sticker emblem, a white rectangular thing in the center of the chest, and a lenticular "badge," off to the right.

First issued in 1979 in a Star Wars package, the large size Boba was re-issued in '80 in an Empire Strikes Back box. The ESB version is much harder to come by.
