Kenner 69197 Action Figure Dangler - '3 New Action Figures' | |
This little shelf dangler, made of flimsy clear plastic, has to be one of the niftiest store display pieces issued by Kenner for their vintage Star Wars line. Its graphics are great, it displays the figures prominently, and it's unique. Furthermore, it makes an interesting comment on the early stages of the figure line. Specifically, it reminds us that all of the original 12 figures were not released in one wave; they were staggered, the final three figures being issued some weeks after the initial assortments. Obviously, Kenner sent this piece to retailers to promote these last three figures-- the Tusken Raider, Jawa and Death Squad Commander. Since this was the case, it's somewhat odd that a cloth rather than plastic cape Jawa is featured on the display. But I guess the lifetime of the plastic cape figure was so short that Kenner already had the later version on hand by the time they were creating the display.
Here's the envelope inside of which these displays were sent to retailers. According to the documents reviewed here, 10,000 of these displays were created, 7,000 of which were packed with the first cases of figures to contain the new figures. |
