| It is cliche to see gold and platinum record awards lining the offices/homes of artists and record executives. Most official Star Wars recordings (soundtracks, disco spinoffs, singles, and narrated albums) attained the gold and platinum status (500,000 and 1,000,000 units, respectively, in the United States) by recording industry certification agencies in various countries. As a result, there are a multitude of in-house and agency record awards associated with the Star Wars films. These awards were presented to artists, record execs, and the top creative talent from the Star Wars movies, however, in practice only a handful of these record awards are ever made for a particular certification. Star Wars record awards come in a variety of styles that were issued over the years: floater, strip plate, hologram. Some feature an LP or 45 RPM record, CD, or cassette, or some combination. This is an RIAA platinum award for the original Star Wars Soundtrack (composed by John Williams and performed by the London Symphony Orchestra). It is the hologram style and is awarded for sale of 1,000,000 units in the United States. The Star Wars soundtrack is one of the best-selling motion picture sountracks of all time, winning many awards (Oscar, Grammy, etc.) and even cracking the top 10. |
