Star Wars Style C One Sheet (PG Rating) | |
A small number of style C posters were printed with the PG rating box in the credit field. The Style C one sheet that most Star Wars collectors are familar with (pictured on the 1985 Star Wars Checklist poster) does not have the PG box. That's because the vast majority of the Style C one sheets were issued for international use only, and not for display within the United States. The PG rating system is a domestic program created for use inside the US. Foreign countries have their own systems for rating movies, if they even rate them at all.
The poster pictured here was found in with a group of posters from 1977, "The Last Remake Of Beau Gest," "Airport '77," a 1977 reissue for "The Sting" etc. The collection remained intact from 1977 to 2002, when it was sold. There have also been test proofs of this poster to surface from a completely different source. Speculation suggests that this poster may have been printed up for special benefit screenings and events, with an empty area left open in the credit field to print such information as dates, times, venue info, etc. It has also been suggested that this space may have been reserved for copy mentioning the upcoming Academy Award screenings/nominations/victories since this artwork began being displayed a mere two months before that event in March 1978. A final possibility may simply be that this was a test run poster with the credit block dropped in temporarily so the Fox people could have something to approve. Whatever it's intended use, it is a noteworthy variation of a truly beautiful poster. 27x41 inches. |
