| Yoda Jedi Master Figure Sculpt | |
| The original sculpture for an action figure is the first stage in creating a three-dimensional toy. Rarely surviving due to the production process only few remain. This particular example is a rough clay sculpt covered in parts with tan wax used to recreate the appearance of cloth for the figure’s Jedi robe. Once sculpted, the figure was then disassembled and silicone molds were made for each part. The silicone would then be filled with wax to re-create a new wax casting that could be further refined. Fortunately, most of the remaining parts from this rough sculpt remain and were reassembled. The original metal armature beneath the clay can be seen in areas where material is missing. Close inspection reveals the cloth pattern originally carved into the wax covering. This particular Yoda figure was released by Hasbro in 2002 for the Star Wars film Attack of the Clones. Also included is a picture of the clay sculpt accompanied by two multicolored first shot figures. First shot figures are made out of production plastic often in non-production colors for final inspection in the prototype process. |
