| This is Richard Edlund’s 35mm Mitchell NC camera accessory case from the original Star Wars trilogy. Richard Edlund was a founding member of Industrial Light & Magic, director of photography for Star Wars, and visual effects supervisor for The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. He was also VFX supervisor for many other classic films like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Poltergeist, Ghostbusters, and more. He’s a multiple time Oscar, BAFTA, and Emmy winner.
Mitchell cameras were used in filming the original Star Wars trilogy. At one time, Mitchell cameras were the standard feature film industry camera with the company claiming by the mid 60s that 85% of films made around the world were filmed with Mitchell cameras. The case came with several accessories such as an electronic shutter and some hand-numbered multicolor gels. The case also has stickers for “The Star Wars" and Pignose. “The Star Wars” was the working title for the first film prior to its release. Edlund co-invented Pignose amplifiers with Wayne Kimbell, which revolutionized portable guitar amps for bands as the world’s first battery-powered amplifier. They were used by many famous artists. You can see many of the ILM crew members wearing red and white Pignose t-shirts throughout the filming of Star Wars. Paul McCartney wore a Pignose t-shirt when he signed the dissolution papers for the Beatles at the Plaza Hotel in New York on December 19, 1974. |
