Kenner 69323 ESB Header Display - 'Foil' Surface | |
This large display sign is a real attention-getter. It has a shiny, "foil" surface that has a dazzling effect to it, similar to that of the later Return of the Jedi "Toy Center" Sign. This would have been mounted above large retail displays of Kenner ESB toys and was shipped with the mounting hardware packed along with it. Originally, this display was intended to have a "lensatic" surface similar to those multifaceted light-reflecting stickers that were so popular with kids in the '80s. But, perhaps due to cost considerations, Kenner ended up producing it with a flat semi-reflective surface that collectors often refer to as "foil."At least some of these displays were produced with some of the open spaces within the letters filled in, but so far these are known only through period photos; as far as I know, none are in collector hands. Kenner budget documents suggest that around 1,500 of these were produced. |
