Kenner 1981 'Save Your Movie Ticket' Toy Rebate Store Display | |
This 19" x 27" cardboard display is a one-sided counter stand for movie theaters. It was used as part of a promotion for the 1981 re-release of Star Wars. The display shows the rebate amount depending on which Kenner toy you buy. The proof of purchase of each toy was cut off the box and mailed along with the rebate slip to Kenner. Three pads of rebate coupons were stuck to the bottom of the display. You could mix and match toys and receive up to a $10 rebate directly from Kenner. If you included your movie ticket stub you were entitled to an additional $1 rebate. The promotion ended May 31, 1981 and theatre managers could keep putting pads of coupons on the display until that time. The customer could also write to Kenner and receive the rebate coupon.
Although we don't know how many of these displays were produced, Kenner documents reveal that the company's budgetary plans foresaw the purchase of 80,000 of the coupon pads. For information on this promotion, see here. |
